2022 La Cayetana Syrah, Los Chacayes, Uco Valley, Argentina

On the nose, this wine is vibrant showing plum, cassis, white pepper, and black olives that leads into a velvety mid palate dominated by blueberry syrup, lavender, and rose petals. A rich, long finish of dark blue and black fruits lingers medium plus tannin, light tannin, and well integrated oak.

ABOUT THIS WINE

This Syrah comes from a single estate vineyard in Los Chacayes, Vista Flores, planted in 2012 on rocky, calcareous alluvial soils at around 1,100 meters, part of the old bed of the Arroyo Grande. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts, including 50 percent whole clusters, over a slow 28-day process in French oak. The wine then ages for twelve months in barrel followed by eight months in bottle, where it also completes a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

La Cayetana is one of the most exciting young projects in the Uco Valley of Argentina — a small, grower-driven estate focused on high-elevation, hand-farmed vineyards in the stony soils of Los Chacayes. Emilia Armando and Eduardo Soler purchased a historic property, once a 168 acre vineyard and Manor that was once a meeting place for everyone from Cardinals to Generals. They began to restore the property, and released their first wine in 2020.
