2024 Weingut Keller "Kirchspiel" Riesling Trocken GG, Rheinhessen, Germany
This Riesling reveals notes of green apple, citrus, and peach, supported by a chalky minerality. On the palate, the wine is both compact and elegant, with lively acidity that adds structure and a long, silky finish that combines clarity of fruit with depth.
ABOUT THIS WINE
The Kirchspiel GG from Weingut Keller is one of the iconic sites in Rheinhessen. The 2024 vintage displays clear minerality, delicate fruit, and balanced freshness. What sets this wine apart is its consistent focus on the Kirchspiel site, combined with typical Keller precision, harmoniously blending the limestone soil and fruit structure. Critics such as Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise Keller Kirchspiel GG as a benchmark for terroir-focused Riesling, impressively combining provenance, precision, and craftsmanship.
Optimal drinking maturity is expected to begin in 2029 and can develop over decades. Food pairing suggestion: Oysters, scallops, grilled salmon, or creamy risotto – dishes that ideally complement the salty minerality and freshness of the Kirchspiel GG.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Founded in 1789, the Keller estate has reached its modern pinnacle under ninth-generation winemaker Klaus Peter Keller and his wife Julia, who took over in 2001 following his studies at Geisenheim and formative experience in Burgundy, including Domaine Armand Rousseau. From their base in Flörsheim-Dalsheim, Keller farms 18 hectares (including 15 classified as Grosse Lag), unlocking the historic potential of Rheinhessen’s limestone soils to produce some of Germany’s most profound wines.
Keller’s Grand Cru Rieslings are larger-than-life wines of remarkable density and power, making them true thoroughbreds. However, what sets Keller apart is an unmatched ability to shape this intensity into something elegant, precise, and profoundly beautiful. Each GG is deeply concentrated and lavish with detail, yet it is the clarity, minerality, and impeccable form that make these wines unforgettable.
After igniting a revolution in his home vineyards of the Rheinhessisches Hügelland, Klaus Peter Keller has more recently turned his attention north to the storied Roter Hang, the famed “red slope” overlooking the Rhine. Long celebrated for power but often lacking finesse, legendary sites such as Pettenthal and Hipping are now yielding wines of extraordinary balance and refinement under the Keller hand, in both dry and off-dry styles.
