ABOUT THE WINE

This Saumur Rouge is made from 100% Cabernet Franc grown on limestone-rich soils in Saumur. Organically farmed and hand-harvested, the grapes are fermented with native yeasts in concrete and aged in a combination of neutral barrels and tank. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, allowing for ripe fruit with vibrant acidity and a clear varietal profile.

The wine is perfumed and restrained, with notes of wild raspberry, sour cherry, forest floor, and dried herbs. The palate is precise and mineral-driven, with a stony core and subtle tannic grip that promises graceful aging—especially in magnum. It’s ideal with charcuterie, roasted poultry, or lentil-based dishes.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Brendan Stater-West, originally from Oregon, produces elegant, terroir-focused wines from Saumur, where he learned under Romain Guiberteau. His small domaine is farmed organically, with a minimalist, low-intervention approach in the cellar that allows the limestone soils and native grape varieties to speak clearly. Best known for his refined Chenin Blancs, his Saumur Rouge reveals the same clarity, structure, and understated depth.
