ABOUT THE WINE
The 2023 Vernaccia di San Gimignano from Capella Sant’Andrea captures the purity and elegance of this historic white grape, cultivated on the rolling hills around the medieval town of San Gimignano. The organically farmed vineyards are rooted in sandy clay and fossil-rich soils at elevations between 280 and 300 meters, lending natural freshness and mineral drive to the wine.
Harvested by hand and vinified in stainless steel to preserve aromatics and energy, this vintage opens with aromas of pear, yellow apple, chamomile, and crushed herbs. The palate is lively and linear, with flavors of lemon peel, green almond, and a gentle herbal note that nods to the region’s Mediterranean influence. A short lees aging period adds texture without weight, allowing the wine’s natural tension and finesse to shine.
Ideal with Tuscan seafood dishes, pecorino cheese, or vegetable-based pastas like pappardelle with artichokes or saffron risotto.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Capella Sant’Andrea is a family-run organic estate rooted in the hills of San Gimignano, where the Di Legami family has revived a historic chapel and its surrounding vineyards with a focus on authenticity and sustainability. Deeply committed to preserving the identity of Vernaccia and the landscape it comes from, they farm their 6 hectares without synthetic chemicals and work closely with the rhythms of nature.
Their approach in the cellar is low-intervention, aiming to allow each vintage and vineyard to express itself honestly. With a focus on native grapes, especially Vernaccia, Capella Sant’Andrea crafts wines that are fresh, site-specific, and true to their Tuscan origins—quietly redefining what this noble white can be in the modern era.
