ABOUT THIS WINE

En Barbi is a single-site Chardonnay grown in Arbois, one of the Jura’s most prized appellations. The vineyard sits on shallow, limestone-rich marl soils at mid-slope, ideal for producing Chardonnay of linearity, intensity, and aromatic lift. The 2023 vintage was cooler and slightly later than previous years, resulting in wines with remarkable freshness, balance, and detail.

Grapes are farmed organically and biodynamically, hand-harvested, and pressed gently. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged in a combination of neutral barrels and large foudres for several months. No new oak is used, allowing the terroir to shine through. The wine is bottled without fining and with minimal sulfur. On the palate, En Barbi balances citrus zest and saline tension with a subtle creaminess, making it a compelling partner for dishes like shellfish, grilled white fish, vegetable tempura, or Comté cheese.

Founded in 2012 by Guillaume d’Angerville of Burgundy’s Domaine Marquis d’Angerville, Domaine du Pélican has rapidly become one of the Jura’s benchmark producers. Located in Montigny-lès-Arsures, just outside Arbois, the estate spans over 15 hectares of meticulously farmed vineyards, all certified organic and biodynamic.

Domaine du Pélican marries Burgundian precision with Jura authenticity, crafting wines that are both terroir-driven and finely tuned. Chardonnay, Savagnin, Trousseau, and Poulsard are all treated with the same minimalist philosophy: native yeasts, low intervention, and aging in neutral vessels. The En Barbi Chardonnay showcases the domaine’s signature style—tense, mineral, and elegant—anchored in Jura’s unique soils and elevated by world-class winemaking vision.
