2023 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy, France
Elegant, expansive, and deeply mineral, the 2023 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard captures the rare power and finesse of this small Grand Cru. Aromas of white peach, lemon curd, hazelnut, and honeysuckle unfold into a rich, layered palate with crystalline acidity and a long, limestone-etched finish. It’s a masterful Chardonnay with both immediate presence and long-term aging potential.

ABOUT THE WINE
Produced from a tiny 0.24-hectare parcel in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet—the smallest of the white Burgundy Grand Crus—this wine is a standout of the domaine’s range. The 2023 vintage brought freshness and balance, ideal for expressing the vineyard’s naturally generous character through the lens of Fontaine-Gagnard’s restrained style.
Hand-harvested Chardonnay is gently pressed and fermented with native yeasts, then aged in French oak barrels, a modest portion of which are new. The result is a wine of impressive depth and refinement, with notes of stone fruit, citrus oil, hazelnut, and baking spice supported by vibrant acidity and a firm mineral core.
