2023 Domaine Philippe Alliet Chinon, Loire Valley, France
Fleshy grape fruit and a mineral accent give this young-vine Cabernet Franc an approachable character. Smooth tannins and balanced acidity keep the palate supple, while its lightly grainy texture adds definition to the fruit-led finish.

ABOUT THE WINE
This Chinon is Cabernet Franc from the domaine’s younger vines on sandy and clay soils. Concrete-vat fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maturation in large-format barrels support a fruit-centered expression of the grape. Fleshy fruit, smooth tannins and a mineral accent make it approachable, while balanced acidity and a lightly grainy texture give definition. The cuvée offers an introduction to Alliet’s style without the more substantial structure of the estate’s individual-site wines.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Philippe and Claude Alliet have farmed in Cravant-les-Coteaux, in the Chinon appellation, since 1985. Their 17-hectare domaine combines alluvial vineyards with the hillside sites of Coteau de Noiré and L’Huisserie. Inspired by Bordeaux, they aim for wines that are satisfying young and capable of developing with age.
Regular plowing, restrained yields and careful vineyard work underpin that approach. The family’s cellars are carved into the region’s tuffeau hillsides, providing a naturally steady environment for maturation. Aging varies with the cuvée, using both tanks and barrels rather than a single formula across the range.
