ABOUT THE WINE

Pingus is Peter Sisseck’s flagship old-vine Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, distinct from Flor de Pingus and PSI. The small vineyard project centers on carefully tended vines in the La Horra area, with biodynamic work intended to bring the plants and soils into healthier balance.

Fermentation in large wooden vats and restrained handling in cask reflect an approach increasingly focused on delineation rather than new-oak impact. The 2023 has concentrated black fruit with spice and mineral accents. Its powerful, enveloping palate is supported by polished tannins and a silky, persistent finish, showing the combination of richness and elegance central to the wine.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck created Pingus in 1995 after discovering old vineyards while working in Ribera del Duero. The name comes from his childhood nickname, and the first release quickly brought attention to his individual vision of Tempranillo.

Since 2001, biodynamic vineyard practices and gradual cellar refinements have shaped that vision. Sisseck’s work combines very low yields with close attention to vine balance and restrained maturation, seeking depth without sacrificing clarity. The wider portfolio includes Flor de Pingus and PSI, each with a separate vineyard purpose and identity.
