2023 Jean-Marc Roulot Beaune 1er Cru “Les Teurons”, Burgundy, France

Refined, energetic, and full of quiet depth, the 2023 “Les Teurons” from Jean-Marc Roulot is a beautifully poised red Burgundy—floral, structured, and expressive of its Beaune origins. Aromas of crushed raspberry, wild cherry, dried rose, and warm spice lead into a medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mineral core. The finish is long and pure, with notes of red currant, sous-bois, and a subtle, savory edge.

ABOUT THIS WINE

“Les Teurons” is one of Beaune’s most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards, located mid-slope on limestone and clay soils that give both structure and elegance to Pinot Noir. Jean-Marc Roulot, known globally for his white wines in Meursault, brings his same ethos of precision and minimal intervention to this small red wine project in Beaune.
The 2023 vintage yielded fruit of exceptional balance—fresh, aromatic, and perfectly ripe. Fermentation is done with native yeasts, often with partial whole-cluster inclusion to enhance aromatics and structure. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (mostly used, with very little new oak) for about 12 months, then bottled without fining or filtration. It’s a wine that blends Beaune’s open-knit charm with Roulot’s signature restraint and purity. Try it with roast duck, mushroom tart, or aged Comté.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Jean-Marc Roulot is best known as the visionary behind Domaine Roulot in Meursault, where he crafts some of the most precise and age-worthy white Burgundies in the world. While his reputation is built on Chardonnay, his quiet exploration of Pinot Noir—especially from sites like Beaune 1er Cru “Les Teurons”—reveals the same commitment to terroir, transparency, and elegance.
Farming is organic, cellar work is thoughtful and restrained, and the wines reflect a Burgundian classicism grounded in energy and finesse. Roulot’s reds are made in tiny quantities and have become highly sought-after for their purity and quiet sophistication—never flashy, always true.
