ABOUT THIS WINE

"The Amos" comes from a remarkable heritage vineyard planted in 1965, recognized as the oldest existing Sauvignon Blanc block in South Africa. The dry-farmed bush vines produce naturally concentrated fruit, while careful skin contact adds texture and gentle phenolic grip. For the 2023 vintage, approximately 30% of the wine was fermented in older French oak, with the remainder fermented in stainless steel, allowing the wine to combine richness and roundness with the variety's characteristic freshness. The result is a serious, terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc that is considerably more mineral and savory than the typical fruit-forward style.

Klein Amoskuil is a historic Swartland property outside Malmesbury that has become an important part of South Africa's old-vine and heritage-wine movement. The estate farms organically and dry-farms its vineyards, with the 1965 Sauvignon Blanc vineyard serving as its signature site. The property was acquired by Charles Back and later developed as an independent Klein Amoskuil label, with a focus on heritage vineyards and distinctive, terroir-driven wines. "The Amos" is particularly significant as a living piece of South African Sauvignon Blanc history.
