ABOUT THE WINE
Produced in the cool, wind-swept Sta. Rita Hills appellation on California’s Central Coast, this Pinot Noir reflects the region’s distinctive combination of maritime influence, extended growing season, and mineral-rich soils. The 2023 vintage highlights Sandhi’s signature style: transparent, site-driven wines focused on balance, freshness, and restraint.
The vineyards benefit from strong Pacific Ocean breezes and morning fog, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining acidity and aromatic precision. Native yeast fermentation and gentle extraction preserve purity and texture, while aging in French oak — used with restraint — adds subtle structure and complexity without masking the wine’s natural character.
On the palate, layers of cranberry, pomegranate, red plum, and black tea are complemented by earthy undertones and delicate spice. The wine’s tension, lift, and mineral edge make it both immediately appealing and capable of graceful aging.
An excellent match for roast chicken, duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, pork tenderloin, and herb-driven cuisine.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Sandhi Wines was founded with a focus on producing elegant, terroir-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the cool-climate vineyards of California’s Central Coast. Guided by a minimalist philosophy, the winery emphasizes transparency of site, balance, and natural acidity over richness or heavy extraction.
Working closely with carefully farmed vineyards throughout the Sta. Rita Hills and neighboring appellations, Sandhi prioritizes sustainable viticulture and low-intervention winemaking practices. Fermentations are conducted with native yeasts, and oak influence is intentionally restrained to preserve freshness and vineyard expression.
The resulting wines are celebrated for their precision, energy, and Burgundian sensibility, offering nuanced and age-worthy expressions of California coastal terroir.
