The 2023 Schloss Gobelsburg "Zöbing" Riesling is a Kamptal DAC village wine crafted from young vines in premier sites—Gaisberg, Heiligenstein, and Kleeblatt. Grapes are hand-harvested in October and November from terraced, "Urgestein" (primary rock) vineyards. Whole-bunch pressing is utilized to ensure a gentle extractions, reducing phenolic harshness and maintaining freshness. The wine is vinified in stainless steel to highlight its crisp "cool climate" profile. The process focuses on preserving pure, aromatic fruit and mineral character through gentle handling and temperature-controlled fermentation. The 2023 vintage is described as having an "exquisite fragrance" with notes of crushed citrus foliage and bergamot, featuring a tense, high-acid, and energetic, mineral-driven palate.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Schloss Gobelsburg, the oldest wine estate in Kamptal’s Danube region, traces its winemaking back to the 12th century and celebrated 850 years in 2021. Originally cultivated by Cistercian monks, the estate has been managed by Eva and Michael Moosbrugger since 1996, earning numerous international awards.

Today, it focuses on regional wines classified as Gebietswein, Ortswein, and Riedenwein, with vineyards in renowned sites like Heiligenstein and Lamm. Sustainable practices, careful hand-harvesting, and minimal intervention in the cellar reflect centuries-old traditions rooted in simplicity and patience.

Alongside its classic Kamptal wines, Gobelsburg produces sparkling wines, cool-climate reds, and small quantities of noble-sweet wines.
