ABOUT THIS WINE

100% Pinot Noir from Austria’s Thermenregion, just south of Vienna. The fruit comes from multiple estate vineyards with limestone- and clay-based soils, which help give the wine freshness and structure. The vineyards are farmed organically. In the cellar, Reinisch uses about 30% whole clusters, bringing extra aromatic lift, spice, and subtle structure. The wine is aged for approximately 10 months primarily in large, previously used Austrian oak casks from Stockinger, along with some older French oak.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Familie Reinisch, historically known as Johanneshof Reinisch, is a family-run estate in Austria’s Thermenregion, centered around Tattendorf and Gumpoldskirchen, roughly 30 km south of Vienna. The family traces its winegrowing history to 1923, when it began with just 0.5 hectares in Ried Mitterfeld. Today, the estate encompasses about 40 hectares and is operated by multiple generations of the Reinisch family.

The estate focuses on the Burgundian varieties, particularly Pinot Noir, alongside the Thermenregion’s traditional grapes such as St. Laurent, Zierfandler, and Rotgipfler. Tattendorf provides warm, stony alluvial soils with significant limestone, while the family's higher-elevation vineyards around Gumpoldskirchen include limestone, clay, and iron-rich sites. 

The estate also places considerable emphasis on organic farming and is officially overseen by an Austrian organic certification body. Their philosophy is strongly terroir-driven: rather than making wines according to fashion, they aim to express differences among vineyard sites, varieties, and vintages.
