ABOUT THIS WINE
Produced on the volcanic islands of the Azores in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, “Original” Verdelho reflects one of the world’s most singular winegrowing environments. The vineyards are planted in black basalt soils and protected from fierce ocean winds by traditional stone walls known as currais, creating a striking landscape shaped by centuries of viticulture.
The 2024 vintage highlights the natural tension and salinity that define Azorean wines. Cool maritime conditions preserve acidity and aromatic purity, while the volcanic terroir contributes a distinctive mineral and smoky character. Fermented and aged primarily in stainless steel, the wine emphasizes freshness, texture, and transparent expression of place.
On the palate, bright citrus and orchard fruit are balanced by pronounced minerality and an unmistakable Atlantic salinity. Verdelho’s naturally vibrant acidity and subtle texture make the wine both refreshing and complex.

Azores Wine Company was founded with the mission of reviving and preserving the Azores’ historic viticultural traditions while showcasing the islands’ extraordinary terroir to the world. Led by a group of passionate winemakers and viticulturists, the project has become internationally recognized for producing distinctive Atlantic wines of purity, salinity, and volcanic character.
The winery works closely with old vineyards planted near the ocean on rugged basalt soils, many of which are farmed by hand due to the islands’ challenging terrain. Sustainable practices, minimal intervention, and a strong focus on indigenous and historic grape varieties guide both vineyard and cellar work.
