2024 Benjamin Leroux Meursault, Burgundy, France
A refined and beautifully balanced Meursault that captures the elegance of this celebrated village through Benjamin Leroux’s understated winemaking. Aromas of ripe citrus, white peach, hazelnut, acacia blossom, and flinty minerality lead to a palate of remarkable precision, combining silky texture with vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish.
ABOUT THE WINE
The 2024 Meursault is sourced from a selection of carefully tended parcels throughout the village, each contributing to the wine’s depth, freshness, and complexity. Benjamin Leroux emphasizes vineyard expression over winemaking influence, allowing the distinctive limestone-rich soils of Meursault to shine. The result is a Chardonnay that balances richness with remarkable tension.
The bouquet reveals layers of lemon curd, pear, white peach, citrus blossom, toasted almond, and subtle hints of fresh butter, wet stone, and light spice. On the palate, generous orchard fruit is supported by crisp acidity and a finely textured, mineral backbone. Lees aging adds gentle creaminess without sacrificing the wine’s vibrant energy, while restrained use of French oak provides subtle structure rather than overt toastiness.
The grapes are harvested by hand, gently whole-cluster pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, with only a modest proportion of new oak, before bottling with minimal intervention to preserve purity and site expression.
While approachable in its youth, the 2024 Meursault will continue to gain complexity over the next 8–12 years.
Food Pairing: An excellent companion to lobster, scallops, roasted turbot, Dover sole, roast chicken with morel mushrooms, veal in cream sauce, Comté cheese, or truffle-infused dishes.
