ABOUT THIS WINE

The Giato wines are the fruit of the most typical native grapes of the Alto Belice Corleonese, Grillo and Catarratto for white, Nero d’Avola and Perricone for red; to these, is added a rosé from Nocera grapes.  They contain a strong dedication to Peppino Impastato, each name recalls the name of his free radio (Radio Aut), his main program (Onda Pazza), and the theme song used (… tutto va ben).

Giato Nero d’Avola - Perricone is the result of only the most representative native grapes of western Sicily and derives its name from the ancient district that surrounded the wonderful Greek theater on Monte Jato. A place that dominates the valley of the river of the same name, the Belice plateau and the most important nucleus of the Centopassi vineyard.

70% Nero D'Avola and 30% Perricone. Manual harvest in boxes, from mid August to mid September. Fermentation in steel tanks, followed by 4 months aging in 90% steel tanks and 10% used tonneau Taransaud.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Centopassi is the winemaking entity of Libera Terra cooperatives that cultivate land confiscated from the mafia in Sicily. The vineyards are distributed in the Alto Belice Corleonese, an area where nature dominates, with overwhelming beauty, unmistakable horizons, and unforgettable sunsets. The wines tell the diversity of each vineyard, of the soils that distinguish them, and of the vines that from time to time enhance their characteristics.

Alto Belice Corleonese is a territory particularly suited to the production of high-quality wines. Open, uncontaminated scenarios, with limestone peaks that emerge on a plateau with a very high average altitude, make this corner of the Mediterranean a perfect place for optimal vine growth.

Thermal excursions, winds, the composition of the soil, and the symbiosis achieved with the vines we have selected lead to ideal starting conditions, far removed from many stereotypes related to Sicilian wines. Here, elegance is the master, the flavor is omnipresent, and the maximum smoothness of the wines guides every smallest decision, from the painstaking care of the vineyards to processes that always tend to emphasize the freshness and expressiveness of the fruity components.
