A focused, precise nose of Asian pear, Quince, white Peach, and lemongrass. The aromas are initially tight and linear, but open up with a swirl or two of air. Air reveals a weighted, complex, earth-driven note of wet stone and lanolin, suggesting the ability to gain weight and power with time. The palate is viscous, with a smoothly textured profile and bright acids that define the flavors.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The Wilson Farms Chenin was picked on August 22nd and was whole-cluster pressed directly to one Puncheon and one Francois Freres barrel. Both used and therefore neutral. A natural primary and secondary fermentation ensued, with the wine being left on primary lees until February. The Gimelli was harvested on October 2nd and pressed whole-cluster to five neutral Francois Freres barrels. Once both fermentations were complete, the wine spent five months on lees until being blended with the Wilson Farms Chenin. The blend was returned to barrel until being racked to tank for bottling in late July. Bottled on August 1st after eleven months in oak, a total of 142 cases were bottled. Alcohol 13.2%. Vegan friendly.

Founded by winemaker Jon Berlin, this is wine made with intention—blended from vineyards across the state to tell the story of California as a whole. Crafted to inspire togetherness. This is wine about place and its people.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jon counted down the following 6575 days until he passed his driving test and hightailed it south to the cold surf and fine wines of the Western Cape. In between chasing waves, Jon was a Naval firefighter, Bracken Fern purveyor, ding repair man, airbrusher, rare succulent grower, nefarious product salesman, restaurant manager, and surfboard shaper. He still regrets not accepting one thousand camels for his then-girlfriend in Morocco in the winter of ‘91.

Completing his first wine harvest in 1999 in Cape Town, a seven-harvest spree across the hemispheres followed. The Sonoma Coast, The Hemel and Aarde Valley, the Hunter Valley, Martinborough, and the Napa Valley are still recovering. 

The pursuit of Hendrix playing backwards at 45rpm was the motivation and the ether he chased.
