2024 David & Nadia "Topography" Pinotage, Swartland, South Africa
A strikingly refined expression of Pinotage, this 2024 "Topography" from David & Nadia offers a vivid counterpoint to the grape’s more rustic reputation. Vibrant red and black cherry aromas lead the way, followed by hints of wild herbs, rooibos, and crushed granite. The palate is sleek and medium-bodied, with juicy acidity, a fine-boned tannin structure, and a long, mineral-laced finish that showcases the precision typical of Swartland’s granite soils.

ABOUT THE WINE
The 2024 "Topography" Pinotage is a terroir-driven, site-specific wine from organically farmed bush vines planted on decomposed granite soils in the Swartland. Hand-harvested and sorted, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with partial whole-bunch inclusion to enhance aromatic lift and structural finesse. The wine is matured in old oak barrels to preserve purity of fruit and minerality. On the nose, expect a mélange of red currant, cranberry, and subtle earthy spice. The palate is energetic and linear, revealing Pinot Noir-like elegance over Pinotage’s usual power, with precise acidity and a dusting of tannin. A compelling pairing with grilled lamb, North African spices, or even a mushroom risotto.
