ABOUT THIS WINE

Produced from 100% Chardonnay, the “En Cailleret” comes from approximately 0.65 hectares of vines planted in 1985 and 1990 on a southeast-facing hillside in Chassagne-Montrachet. The soils are composed of clay, limestone, and marl, with the particularly stony, calcareous character of the site giving the wine its distinctive mineral tension and verticality. The grapes are harvested by hand and the vineyard is organically certified. In the cellar, the wine is aged for approximately 14 to 16 months in 228- and 350-liter oak barrels, with roughly 30–50% new oak, and is bottled without filtration. The 2024 vintage emphasizes freshness, cool fruit, and pronounced mineral definition, creating a Premier Cru with both concentration and remarkable precision.

Domaine Morey-Coffinet is one of the established names of Chassagne-Montrachet, founded through the union of the Morey and Coffinet families and today led by Thibault Morey. The domaine farms approximately eight to nine hectares across Chassagne-Montrachet and neighboring appellations, with a collection of village wines, Premier Crus, and the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet. The estate has been organically certified since 2018 and places considerable emphasis on living soils, careful vineyard work, and low-intervention winemaking. Thibault Morey has increasingly incorporated practices such as horse plowing and larger-format vessels while maintaining the use of oak to add texture without obscuring the identity of each vineyard. “En Cailleret” is particularly expressive of this philosophy, translating the stony, limestone-rich character of its site into a wine of freshness, tension, and remarkable mineral persistence.
