ABOUT THIS WINE
This wine comes from a small plot of 1.5 hectares of century-old Albariño vines, planted in 1862. This wine is made entirely by hand, following a tradition passed down through five generations. The grapes are harvested manually and carefully selected. Once in the winery, the winemaking process begins with a spontaneous fermentation, which is carried out with native yeasts in oak vats without temperature control.
After fermentation, the wine rests for 12 months in foudres, without bâttonage. This results in greater expression and complexity. Gently filtered, it rests briefly in the bottle before being released to the market. With a very limited production, this is one of the best Spanish whites, on par with a great Riesling or a great Burgundy.

Forjas del Salnés is one of the most exciting producers in Rías Baixas, led by winemaker Rodrigo Méndez in collaboration with Raúl Pérez. Based in the village of Meaño, the winery has been instrumental in redefining Albariño as a serious, age-worthy white capable of expressing terroir with Burgundian precision. Farming is sustainable and often organic, with a strong focus on old vines—many ungrafted—and granitic soils that impart tension and minerality. In the cellar, low-intervention techniques preserve purity: spontaneous fermentations, minimal sulfur, and gentle élevage in used wood. “Leirana” is the estate’s entry-point Albariño, but it overdelivers with depth, precision, and unmistakable coastal identity.
