ABOUT THE WINE
This wine is a blend of 75% Chenin Blanc and 25% Sémillon from the Western Cape. The Chenin comes from a single‑vineyard parcel in the Breedekloof region, the Sémillon from a vineyard in the Hemel en Aarde Ridge appellation. Hand‑harvested, the Chenin was whole‑bunch pressed and settled overnight in stainless steel before being racked to barrel. The Sémillon underwent a 10‑day skin‑fermentation in open‑top fermenters before pressing and barrel ageing. Indigenous yeast fermentation and malolactic conversion were encouraged; ageing occurred for approximately nine months in older French oak barrels (225‑228 L) with no new wood. On the nose it shows crisp orchard fruit (green apple, quince) and floral notes (jasmine). The palate brings that fruit into a smooth, yet firm structure, with gentle oak‑derived texture, lively acidity and mineral‑tinged finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled white fish, light chicken dishes, citrus‑and‑herb salads or soft cheeses.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Lalela is a South African wine project founded by Natasha Williams and Wade Sander, rooted in the Cape Winelands and dedicated to sourcing exceptional fruit from across the Western Cape and reflecting the stories of its people and land. Their approach emphasises minimal intervention in the cellar, sustainable farming practices at vineyard level and a respect for varietal and site expression. The “Heritage” label speaks to vintage‑specific vineyard parcels, older vines and a commitment to blending heritage varietals such as Chenin Blanc and Sémillon. The brand asks the consumer to “listen” (the Zulu word Lalela means “listen”) to the land, the people and the wine’s narrative, making each bottle as much about place and story as flavour.
