2024 Ökonomierat Rebholz Estate Pinot Blanc, Pfalz, Germany

A precise, bone-dry Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) that captures the crystalline, mineral-driven style for which Rebholz is renowned. Fresh pear, green apple, lemon zest, white peach, and delicate blossoms are layered with subtle herbal and stony notes. The palate is sleek yet gently textured, driven by vibrant acidity and a cool mineral tension rather than overt fruitiness. Clean, savory, and beautifully balanced, it closes with citrus, crushed stone, and a long, refreshing finish.

ABOUT THE WINE

The 2024 Estate Pinot Blanc is made from 100% Weissburgunder, the German name for Pinot Blanc, grown in the southern Pfalz around Siebeldingen. Rebholz’s vineyards occupy an unusually diverse geological landscape along the edge of the Haardt Mountains, where limestone, sandstone, loess, and other ancient formations contribute complexity and a pronounced mineral character to the estate’s wines.

The Rebholz family approaches Weissburgunder as a serious expression of terroir rather than simply an easy-drinking neutral white. Farming is certified organic and biodynamic, with vineyard work focused on healthy soils, biodiversity, low yields, and physiologically ripe fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand, and the estate favors gentle handling in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and restrained élevage. The goal is to avoid unnecessary additions or manipulation and preserve the natural character of the grape, vintage, and vineyard.

True to the estate’s philosophy, the wine is fermented completely dry, emphasizing structure, acidity, and mineral definition. The 2024 vintage's freshness gives the wine an energetic profile, while Pinot Blanc provides a subtle creaminess and breadth through the mid-palate. This tension between texture and linearity makes it both immediately appealing and versatile at the table.

Serve around 46–50°F (8–10°C) with shellfish, grilled or poached fish, sushi, asparagus, roast chicken, schnitzel, creamy vegetable dishes, or mild cheeses. Its combination of dry extract, acidity, and understated fruit also makes it particularly successful with foods that can overwhelm more aromatic white wines.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz, based in Siebeldingen in Germany’s Pfalz, is one of the country's benchmark estates for dry, terroir-driven wines. The family’s modern philosophy traces back to Eduard Rebholz, who received the honorary title Ökonomierat and rejected the convention of adjusting wines with added sweetness in favor of naturally fermented, uncompromisingly dry wines. That philosophy was notably unconventional in Germany at the time and remains fundamental to the estate today.

Under Hansjörg Rebholz and his family, the winery has become especially respected for its rigorous vineyard work and unusually transparent interpretation of geology. Rebholz is a member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) and farms its vineyards according to organic and biodynamic principles, treating soil health and biodiversity as essential components of wine quality.

The estate is perhaps best known for its Rieslings from celebrated Pfalz sites, but its Pinot varieties—particularly Weissburgunder and Spätburgunder—are equally important to its identity. Across the range, the Rebholz signature is consistent: low-intervention cellar work, little interest in cosmetic winemaking, complete dryness, and an emphasis on precision, texture, and mineral expression. The 2024 Estate Pinot Blanc offers an accessible introduction to that philosophy—a deceptively understated white whose purity and structure reveal the seriousness behind its effortless drinkability.
