2024 Olifantsberg "Beneath our Feet" White, Breedekloof, Western Cape, South Africa
An intricately layered, mineral-charged white blend, the 2024 “Beneath Our Feet” White is a quiet powerhouse—precise, textured, and evocative of the decomposed shale and sandstone soils from which it springs. Aromas of white peach, fennel pollen, lemon zest, and crushed stone unfold into a palate that’s savory, waxy, and saline. Tightly wound yet generous, with a fine phenolic grip and a finish that hums with tension and energy.

ABOUT THE WINE
The 2024 vintage of “Beneath Our Feet” White is a blend rooted in Rhône and Mediterranean tradition, composed primarily of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Chenin Blanc, each variety harvested from sustainably farmed vines growing on mineral-rich mountain soils. Grenache Blanc provides structure and salinity; Roussanne adds waxy depth and spice; Chenin lends lift, acidity, and orchard-fruit clarity.
Grapes were hand-picked in the early morning to retain freshness, then gently whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation was spontaneous with native yeasts in a combination of neutral 500L French oak, concrete eggs, and stainless steel tanks. Each component matured separately on fine lees for 9 months, with minimal bâtonnage, before final blending. The result is a textural white with subtle aromatic complexity, framed by natural acidity and a mineral seam that echoes the vineyard’s geology.
The 2024 vintage was marked by a mild growing season and excellent phenolic development, allowing for great precision in the finished wine. Serve with grilled squid, roast chicken with preserved lemon, or soft-ripened cheeses.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Olifantsberg Family Vineyards is a mountain-side estate in the Breedekloof region of South Africa’s Western Cape. Led by winemaker Elizma Visser, the estate champions sustainable farming and low-intervention winemaking, producing wines that articulate the natural energy and complexity of their rugged terroir.
The estate is planted primarily to Rhône and Mediterranean varieties, which thrive in the region’s elevated, wind-exposed vineyards and rocky soils. Farming is guided by organic principles, with a deep focus on biodiversity, minimal irrigation, and soil preservation.
The “Beneath Our Feet” range reflects Olifantsberg’s commitment to expressing terroir through texture, restraint, and purity. These wines are not about overt power—they are quiet, confident, and built on the foundation of place, geology, and thoughtful human stewardship.
