ABOUT THE WINE

This 2024 Etna Bianco from Tascante is made from Carricante, the indigenous white grape of Mount Etna. Grown on the volcano’s high-altitude slopes, Carricante is prized for its naturally high acidity and its ability to develop complexity with time. Tascante grows their Carricante on the North and east slopes of Mount Etna, primarily Contrada Sciaranuova and Contrada Grassa / Feudo. These vineyards are planted at a high altitude of 600m, on black basalt. After harvest, the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks with 4-5 months on the lees.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Tenuta Tascante is Tasca d’Almerita’s estate on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. Its name blends “Tasca” and “Etna,” and the project began in 2007, bringing the family’s long winemaking history to the volcano’s distinctive landscape. The estate focuses on local grapes, especially Nerello Mascalese for its reds and Carricante for its whites. Its vineyards sit among Etna’s high-altitude volcanic slopes, where the varied soils and site conditions shape wines with a strong sense of place.

Tascante’s wines include single-site bottlings that highlight individual contrade—the local vineyard districts. The estate’s Contrada Rampante, for example, comes from the volcano’s northern side near Castiglione di Sicilia and is made from Nerello Mascalese.
