2025 Domaine Maubernard Bandol Rosé, Provence, France
Flinty redcurrant on the nose, along with fresh raspberry, and delicate floral hints. Light-to-medium-bodied, precise, and tense with a refreshing structure and signature salinity.
ABOUT THIS WINE
This wine comes from grapes planted in vineyards that face the sea and contain clay-limestone soils, sandy marl, and large slabs of calcareous sandstone locally called “les lecques.” The estate emphasizes traditional, low-intervention farming. Maubernard’s rosé is made predominantly from Mourvèdre, with a splash of Grenache and Cinsault.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Domaine Maubernard is a small, family-run estate in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, at the eastern edge of the Bandol appellation in Provence. The property has been in the family for generations, with Michel Vidal revitalizing the domaine in the 1990s and his son, Florent, now representing the fifth generation. The estate remains intimate in scale, producing wines that reflect its deep connection to the Mediterranean landscape.
The domaine farms roughly 8–10 hectares of vineyards overlooking the Gulf of Les Lecques. Its sea-facing slopes feature clay, sandy marl, limestone, and distinctive slabs of calcareous sandstone known locally as “les lecques.” Combined with the moderating influence of the Mediterranean, these soils create conditions particularly well suited to Mourvèdre, Bandol’s signature grape.
Maubernard emphasizes traditional, thoughtful farming, with hand harvesting, low yields, worked soils, and organic practices; the estate achieved Ecocert organic certification beginning with the 2022 vintage. Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Clairette, and Ugni Blanc are grown across the property, allowing the family to produce wines firmly rooted in the classic varieties and maritime terroir of Bandol.
