2025 Domaines Landron Muscadet Sèvre et Maine “Amphibolite”, Loire Valley, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

The 2025 Domaines Landron “Amphibolite” is a Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne. The cuvée takes its name from its distinctive amphibolite soils, a greenish metamorphic rock derived from gabbro. Landron created the Amphibolite bottling specifically to highlight this terroir, and the estate describes it as a youthful, citrus-driven Muscadet with a distinctly saline finish.

The 2025 is harvested by hand and undergoes direct pneumatic pressing of whole clusters, with no chaptalization and no settling of the juice. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts under temperature control, followed by roughly six months of aging on the lees in glass-lined concrete tanks. This relatively short élevage is intentional: Amphibolite is designed to emphasize freshness, immediacy and the lively character of Melon rather than the deeper, longer-aged style found in some of Landron’s cru-level Muscadets. 

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Domaines Landron is a family-run estate in La Haye-Fouassière in Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, with roots dating back to the 1940s. Jo Landron joined the family domaine in 1979 and became a leading advocate for terroir-driven Muscadet, focusing on how the region’s diverse geology can produce distinctly different expressions of Melon de Bourgogne.

The estate began farming organically in 1999, achieved organic certification in 2002, and became Biodyvin-certified biodynamic in 2011. In the cellar, Landron takes a minimalist approach, using hand harvesting, whole-bunch pressing, indigenous yeasts, parcel-by-parcel vinification, and lees aging to preserve freshness and clearly express each vineyard’s character.

Today, Jo’s daughter Hélène Landron represents the next generation, having joined the domaine in 2021 and taken charge of its vineyards in 2024. Across roughly 33 hectares, the family produces site-driven wines such as Amphibolite, Les Houx, and Fief du Breil, each highlighting a different geological identity and showcasing the remarkable diversity and potential of Muscadet
