ABOUT THE WINE

Pascal Janvier's Cuvée du Rosier is a light, fragrant red from Coteaux du Loir, made from the region's distinctive Pineau d'Aunis grape. Grown in a 1.6-hectare parcel of approximately 25-year-old vines on clay and sand, it typically offers bright strawberry and cranberry fruit, a gentle earthy note and the variety's telltale peppery lift. Its supple body and fresh, clean finish are especially appealing served slightly cool.

After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in tank with daily pump-overs. The wine is pressed after alcoholic fermentation, racked for malolactic fermentation and bottled after a further racking. Pair it with roast poultry, charcuterie or boldly seasoned dishes.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Pascal Janvier came to winemaking after first training as a butcher, changing course at thirty to study viticulture in Amboise. Together with his wife Dominique, he tends numerous small parcels around Jasnières and Coteaux du Loir, among the northernmost appellations of the greater Loire region. Their thoughtful, lutte raisonnée approach and commitment to lesser-known local grapes have helped bring renewed attention to this quietly distinctive corner of France.
