2011 Château Latour Premier Cru Classé Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

The 2011 Château Latour is a sophisticated and refined expression of this iconic Pauillac estate, offering a unique balance of power, depth, and elegance. The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cassis, combined with classic notes of graphite, cedar, and tobacco. Over time, subtle layers of leather, spice, and a hint of earthy minerality begin to emerge. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet precise, with firm, structured tannins that provide a backbone of power. The concentrated dark fruit is complemented by nuances of dark chocolate, coffee, and a touch of toasted oak. The finish is long, seamless, and persistent, with a fine minerality that speaks to its Pauillac terroir. The wine is already showing exceptional balance, but its robust structure ensures that it will continue to evolve and develop with further aging, revealing even greater complexity and finesse.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The 2011 Château Latour was made from a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, with Cabernet Sauvignon as the dominant varietal that provides the wine with its structure and aging potential. After hand-harvesting, the grapes were rigorously sorted and fermented separately by variety. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels, contributing to its rich texture and layered complexity. The 2011 vintage was marked by a cooler growing season, which allowed for longer ripening and a more restrained, elegant style of wine that maintains fresh acidity and balance alongside the deep, concentrated fruit. Although the wine is already accessible, it has the structure to age gracefully over the next several decades.
