2009 Château Mouton-Rothschild Premier Cru Classé Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The 2009 Château Mouton-Rothschild is an extraordinary wine, showcasing the exceptional quality and finesse for which this iconic estate is renowned. The nose is intense and captivating, with rich, ripe aromas of blackberries, cassis, and dark plums, complemented by notes of violet, black cherry, and a subtle hint of mocha. As the wine breathes, additional layers of complexity emerge—cedar, graphite, leather, and tobacco, creating an intricate and multi-dimensional bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and richly textured, with ripe, dark fruit flavors enveloped by silky tannins that provide a seamless, luxurious mouthfeel. The wine is impeccably balanced, with vibrant acidity that lifts the concentrated fruit and enhances the wine’s freshness. The oak influence is subtle yet significant, adding nuances of vanilla, spice, and toasted almonds without overshadowing the purity of the fruit. The finish is long, refined, and incredibly persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spices, and a fine, mineral edge. The 2009 Château Mouton-Rothschild is an exceptional vintage, already showing beautifully but with the potential to age gracefully for decades to come.

ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2009 Château Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, with the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon contributing to the wine’s structure, depth, and aging potential. The grapes were hand-harvested and meticulously sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. After fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel and was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels, imparting additional complexity and a subtle oaky influence. The growing season in 2009 was marked by ideal weather conditions, with a warm, dry summer followed by cooler nights, allowing for slow, even ripening of the grapes. The result is a wine with incredible concentration, balance, and finesse, reflecting the estate’s commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality. While the wine is already approachable, its powerful structure and deep fruit suggest that it will continue to evolve and improve over the next 20-30 years.
