2007 Familia Torres "Mas La Plana" Cabernet Sauvignon, Penedès, Spain
The 2007 Mas La Plana is a benchmark vintage of one of Spain’s most iconic single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons. Fully mature yet remarkably vibrant, it opens with complex aromas of blackcurrant, cigar box, dried herbs, graphite, and subtle truffle. The palate is refined and silky, with softened tannins, fresh acidity, and a graceful balance between dark fruit, earthy depth, and savory spice. The finish is long, layered, and elegant, reflecting its 15+ years of evolution.

ABOUT THIS WINE
First produced in 1970, Mas La Plana comes from a small, 29-hectare plot in the Upper Penedès, planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2007 vintage saw a mild, extended growing season that allowed for full phenolic ripeness and fine aromatic development. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel with regular pump-overs before aging for 18 months in French oak barrels (60% new). After bottling, the wine was further cellared at the estate before release. Now in its drinking prime, the 2007 shows tertiary complexity—tobacco, leather, dried cherry—layered over a still-vibrant core. Best enjoyed with grilled lamb, aged Manchego, or mushroom ragù.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Familia Torres is one of Spain’s most historic and internationally respected wine families, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1870. Pioneers in bringing noble French varieties to Spain, they first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in Penedès in the 1960s—an audacious move at the time that culminated in the creation of Mas La Plana. The wine famously gained global recognition in 1979 when it triumphed over top Bordeaux in the Gault & Millau Wine Olympics. Committed to sustainability, innovation, and climate resilience, the Torres family combines deep reverence for tradition with forward-thinking viticulture and environmental stewardship. Mas La Plana remains their flagship red: a powerful, age-worthy expression of site and varietal.
