2014 Château Mouton-Rothschild Premier Cru Classé Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The 2014 Château Mouton-Rothschild is an exceptional expression of the estate’s grandeur, combining both power and elegance in a beautifully balanced wine. The nose is rich and inviting, offering a complex array of aromas—dark blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum, alongside nuanced floral notes of violet and a distinctive minerality. Layers of cedar, graphite, and a touch of tobacco begin to emerge as the wine breathes, enhancing the depth of its bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with an impressive structure that supports the concentrated dark fruit, while the tannins are finely integrated and silky, creating a luxurious texture. The balance between fruit and acidity is impeccable, with fresh, vibrant flavors of cassis, black cherry, and subtle hints of dark chocolate, spice, and espresso. The oak influence is well-handled, lending a refined touch of vanilla and a hint of smokiness, without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is long, graceful, and persistent, with lingering flavors of dark fruit, spice, and a mineral edge that speaks to the Pauillac terroir. The 2014 Mouton-Rothschild is already showing beautifully but possesses the structure to age gracefully over the next two to three decades.

ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2014 Château Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, with the majority of the wine coming from the estate’s iconic Cabernet Sauvignon vines, which provide the backbone and aging potential for the wine. After hand-harvesting, the grapes were meticulously sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak, contributing complexity and structure to the final wine. The 2014 growing season was marked by a warm summer, following a cooler spring, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, resulting in a wine with both freshness and concentration. The vintage is marked by a beautiful balance between fruit, structure, and acidity, making it one of the most approachable and elegant Mouton-Rothschild wines in recent years, yet it still possesses excellent aging potential.
