ABOUT THE WINE

Champs St. Etienne is a small monopole in Marsannay, at the northern end of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Roty’s mature Pinot Noir vines give the site an identity within the domaine’s range, offering a distinct parcel expression rather than a broad village blend.

The estate destems its grapes and ferments in concrete, followed by barrel maturation. The 2021 combines rose, strawberry and darker cherry fruit with spice, minerality and neatly integrated oak. A medium-bodied palate and good acidity give it a graceful profile, while the focused finish retains enough structure for bottle development. Roast poultry or a mushroom dish would suit its balance of perfume and savory detail.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

The Rotys are among Gevrey-Chambertin’s longstanding winegrowing families, with roots extending back centuries. Pierre-Jean Roty continues the family work across holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin and Marsannay.

Old vines, shallow soil cultivation and a measured use of treatments are central to the estate’s approach. In the cellar, destemming, concrete fermentation and patient oak maturation support wines known for both depth and longevity. The domaine maintains its own practical methods rather than following a certification framework or changing fashion.
