2017 Château Gaby "Princess Gaby" Canon-Fronsac, Bordeaux, France
A vibrant and elegant expression from the Right Bank, the 2017 "Princess Gaby" captures the charm of Canon-Fronsac with a supple, fruit-driven profile wrapped in polished tannins. Ripe red cherries, wild raspberries, and soft plum lead the aromatic charge, with subtle hints of violet, cedar, and crushed gravel. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with bright acidity lifting the juicy core, while a gentle mineral thread runs through to a graceful, lingering finish.

ABOUT THE WINE
The 2017 "Princess Gaby" is a Merlot-dominant blend (typically around 85–90% Merlot with a small balance of Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), sourced from organically farmed, clay-limestone slopes in Canon-Fronsac — a historic terroir west of Saint-Émilion. The wine undergoes a gentle vinification with native yeasts and is aged in French oak barrels (approximately 12 months, with a modest proportion of new oak), resulting in a polished yet terroir-transparent style.
This vintage, shaped by a cool spring and dry summer, shows clarity and finesse: lifted aromatics, pure fruit expression, and fine-boned structure.
Its approachable, rounded character makes it a versatile partner for dishes such as roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled lamb, or aged Comté.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Château Gaby is a meticulously restored 18th-century estate perched on a hilltop overlooking the Dordogne River in Canon-Fronsac. Since its revival in the early 2000s, the estate has been focused on organic viticulture, with full organic certification since 2018. The philosophy here is one of minimal intervention and authenticity — letting the distinctive clay-limestone soils and old-vine Merlot speak clearly through each vintage.
Under the guidance of winemaker Damien Landouar, the château produces both classic and expressive wines, with “Princess Gaby” positioned as a more fruit-forward, early-drinking cuvée. The estate balances heritage with a forward-thinking, sustainable approach, making it a standout in the Canon-Fronsac appellation.
