2019 Domaine Du Meix-Foulot, Mercurey 1er Cru, Burgundy, France
Bright and classically structured, the 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru from Domaine du Meix-Foulot balances precision with charm. Aromas of wild red berries, crushed violets, and earthy spice lead into a palate of tart cherry, cranberry, and a touch of savory dried herbs. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, with lifted acidity that carries through to a long, mineral-etched finish. This is a beautifully restrained expression of Premier Cru Mercurey—elegant yet grounded in its Côte Chalonnaise roots.

ABOUT THE WINE
This 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru is composed entirely of Pinot Noir sourced from Domaine du Meix-Foulot’s Premier Cru holdings in Mercurey, one of the most respected communes in the Côte Chalonnaise. The wine opens with aromatic notes of red currant, pomegranate, rose petal, and a subtle forest floor nuance, reflecting both site and vintage. On the palate, it is lithe and focused, with a cool-toned fruit core framed by supple tannins and refreshing acidity.
The vineyard sits on limestone-rich soils with clay topsoil, promoting finesse and depth in the final wine. The domaine practices sustainable farming, with minimal intervention in the cellar. Vinification involves partial whole-cluster fermentation and aging in French oak barrels—mostly neutral—with a gentle touch to preserve purity. This Premier Cru is ideal with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or aged Comté cheese. Its poise and structure also promise graceful aging over the next decade.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine du Meix-Foulot is a historic, family-run estate in Mercurey, Burgundy, with roots dating back to the 17th century. Today, it is led by Agnès Dewé de Launay, who carries forward the domaine’s classicist vision: restrained winemaking, respect for terroir, and wines that speak clearly of their origin. Farming is sustainable with a strong emphasis on biodiversity and soil health. In the cellar, the approach is hands-off—native yeasts, modest oak use, and no fining or filtration when possible. Meix-Foulot is celebrated for producing some of the most refined and age-worthy wines in the Côte Chalonnaise, consistently over-delivering in both quality and character.
