ABOUT THE WINE

Les Clous is a village-level Chardonnay from the hills above Meursault, where marl and limestone distinguish the site from the warmer vineyards below. Bouchard treats this named vineyard separately to preserve its identity. The producer’s holdings occupy a plateau around 280–300 meters, with an easterly exposure.

Hand harvesting, careful sorting and gradual pressing precede fermentation and maturation in French oak. A measured use of new barrels allows texture to develop without obscuring the site. The 2022 offers lemon peel, white fruit, hazelnut and floral accents, with freshness, minerality and a persistent finish. Fish with a light sauce or roast poultry makes a thoughtful pairing.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Founded in Beaune in 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils developed from a merchant business into a substantial Burgundy domaine. Its first vineyard purchase, in Pommard in 1775, began a long history of acquiring and caring for individual Côte d’Or parcels.

The estate’s philosophy responds to each site and vintage rather than applying one formula. Careful vineyard work, selection and cellar decisions support wines that show Burgundy’s differences in soil and exposure. Its historic cellars and broad range connect that heritage with continued attention to the character of each harvest.
