ABOUT THE WINE
"En Besset" is sourced from a five-hectare hillside vineyard situated on decomposed granite soils near Saint-Amour and Juliénas, where the higher elevation encourages slow ripening and exceptional freshness. Planted entirely to 100% Gamay, the site consistently produces wines of concentration, precision, and striking mineral character.
The fruit is harvested by hand and fermented with whole clusters using traditional semi-carbonic maceration, preserving Gamay's vibrant fruit while building aromatic complexity and fine structure. The wine is then aged primarily in concrete tanks with a portion in large neutral oak demi-muids, allowing the purity of the vineyard to shine without excessive oak influence. Farming is certified organic and the estate continues to embrace biodynamic principles to promote healthy soils and expressive vineyards.
The 2023 vintage delivers layers of fresh cherry, blackberry, raspberry, violets, crushed stone, and hints of smoked herbs and spice. Its bright acidity, supple tannins, and savory mineral backbone make it exceptionally versatile at the table. Pair with roast chicken, grilled pork, charcuterie, duck breast, mushroom dishes, burgers, or aged Alpine cheeses.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine de Fa was established in 2013 by the Graillot family, whose name has long been synonymous with benchmark Syrah from the Northern Rhône. Brothers Maxime and Antoine Graillot expanded into Beaujolais after recognizing the remarkable potential of several high-altitude granite vineyards. Drawing on their Rhône expertise while respecting Beaujolais tradition, they produce wines that combine purity, freshness, and impressive structure.
Organic farming, meticulous vineyard work, and minimal intervention in the cellar define the estate's philosophy. Whole-cluster fermentations, restrained élevage, and careful site selection allow each vineyard to express its unique personality. Domaine de Fa has quickly earned a reputation for crafting Beaujolais that balances vibrant drinkability with the depth and age-worthiness more commonly associated with the region's finest crus.
