2023 Joseph Colin Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Sous Roche Dumay", Burgundy, France
A luminous expression of Saint-Aubin’s high-altitude terroir, this Premier Cru Chardonnay captures the essence of its chalky slope with radiant energy. It opens with lifted notes of white flowers, crisp pear, and lemon zest, underpinned by subtle almond and flint. The palate is textured and glossy, yet vibrant, with racy acidity and a finely etched, chalk-driven finish that lingers with poise and precision.

ABOUT THIS WINE
The “Sous Roche Dumay” vineyard sits high on the western slope of Saint-Aubin at roughly 350 meters elevation. The soils are predominantly limestone—over 90% chalk—with minimal clay, a composition that directly contributes to the wine’s precision and mineral backbone. The vines, averaging over 20 years in age, are farmed sustainably with great respect for the land, emphasizing vine health and soil vitality.
Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts to preserve site expression, followed by aging in French oak barrels, of which approximately 25% are new. This gentle élevage allows the wine to integrate structure and complexity while maintaining freshness and transparency. The 2023 vintage reveals layers of stone fruit, citrus oil, and a tactile mineral texture, all wrapped in a sleek, medium-bodied frame. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as scallops, poached salmon, creamy pasta, or soft-rind cheeses.
