ABOUT THE WINE

Clos des Ducs is the crown jewel of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville—a monopole vineyard owned solely by the domaine and widely regarded as one of the greatest Premier Crus in all of Burgundy. Sitting on a steep, east-facing slope in the heart of Volnay, the vineyard’s shallow, rocky limestone soils and excellent drainage yield wines of exceptional clarity and aging potential.

The 2023 vintage brought a return to classicism, with moderate temperatures and ideal harvest conditions delivering fruit of balance, purity, and energy. The Pinot Noir was hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in French oak barrels (about 20% new). As always, no fining or filtration was used, and élevage was carried out with the utmost care to preserve terroir expression.

In magnum, the 2023 Clos des Ducs unfolds slowly: delicate floral aromatics lead to a core of red and black fruit, subtle spice, and stony minerality. The texture is both lithe and concentrated, with an inner tension that promises long-term development. Pair with refined dishes—duck breast with cherry gastrique, veal with truffle jus, or simply decant and savor with age. Ideal drinking window: 2028–2045+.
