2024 Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Monts Luisants" Burgundy, France

A rare white premier cru from the Côte de Nuits, Dujac’s Les Monts Luisants is Chardonnay from the steep upper slopes of Morey-Saint-Denis. The 2024 shows citrus and white-flower notes with a fresh, chalky palate and a saline finish.

ABOUT THE WINE

Les Monts Luisants offers an unusual white-wine perspective on Morey-Saint-Denis. Dujac’s roughly 0.6-hectare parcel is planted to Chardonnay at the top of a steep, east-facing slope northeast of the village. At approximately 311–343 meters, the site has sandy-silty soil filled with angular limestone gravel, above deeper layers of limestone scree.

The domaine farms organically and applies biodynamic practices across its vineyards. For this cuvée, the importer describes native-yeast fermentation in stainless steel followed by maturation in French oak barrels that are one to three years old, with bottling without fining or filtration. Used barrels allow the wine to develop texture while keeping the vineyard’s character at the center.

This 2024 bottling is an opportunity to explore Chardonnay from a Côte de Nuits village more commonly encountered through its reds. We suggest pairing it with roast chicken, delicate fish in a butter sauce, or mushrooms on brioche, dishes that give a textured white Burgundy room to unfold.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Jacques Seysses founded Domaine Dujac in 1968 after learning winemaking with Gérard Potel at La Pousse d’Or. He purchased the former Domaine Graillet in Morey-Saint-Denis and renamed it Dujac, a contraction of “du Jacques.” Rosalind Seysses became central to the estate, and their sons Jeremy and Alec, together with Jeremy’s wife Diana, now continue its work.

The domaine began organic trials in 2001, extended them across its vineyards by 2008 and received certification in 2011. Biodynamic practices complement plowing, organic compost and considerable manual vineyard work. Its philosophy places the greatest effort in the vines, allowing cellar decisions to remain discreet and responsive to each site and vintage.
