ABOUT THIS WINE
Made only in the best vintages, Fontodi’s Flaccianello, reflects the superior terroir of the Panzano region in the Chianti Classico region. The vineyards sit at high altitudes with marly soil composition and see wide diurnal temperature swings providing a slow, even ripening season. The quality of the location is matched by the care of the vineyards and winemaking process. Certified Organic, Fontodi emphasizes vineyard care through regenerative practices. Harvests are performed manually and the modern, gravity-fed cellar system ensures gentle handling during the fermentation and aging process. What results from these factors is an intense, complex wine that has great aging potential.
It is not often that back vintages of iconic wines are made available, but Perrine’s Wineshop just received a few library wines in addition to recent vintages of Fontodi Flaccianello! We are currently offering these wines as a vertical pack where you have an opportunity to experience the progression of this great wine, but individual bottles may be purchased as well. Library wines from the 2000 and 2010 vintages are available along with the 2019 and 2020 releases. A special treat is the availability of a magnum from the 2019 vintage!
The vertical case includes 3 bottles of the 2020 Flaccianello della Pieve, 3 bottles of the 2019 Flaccianello della Pieve, 3 bottles of the 2010 Flaccianello della Pieve, 1 bottle of the 2000 Flaccianello della Pieve and 1 magnum of the 2019 Flaccianello della Pieve. The retail value for the pack is $2489.89, but we are pleased to offer it for sale at a 15% discount price of $2116.40. This is a unique opportunity to add an iconic wine at various stages of development and life!
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Tenuta Fontodi is Chianti's class act: Her renowned crus are the Super Tuscan Flaccianello and the Sangiovese-Cabernet Sauvignon favorite Vigna del Sorbo, while her Chianti Classico is unflinchingly reliable. Winemaking in the timeless land of Chianti Classico dates back to the 8th century, and the term "Chianti" was applied to wine as far back as 1398: Tenuta Fontodi is one of many existing estates that can trace their lineage back to these historic times. Fontodi is an all-time favorite of any Tuscan wine enthusiast. In the 17 published editions of Gambero Rosso, Italy's acclaimed wine rating guide, this Tuscan estate has won the coveted Tre Bicchieri (Three Glasses) award 13 times. And like the other greats of Chianti Classico (Felsina, Querciabella, Castell'in Villa...), they did it by revealing the true essence of the Sangiovese grape and the local terroir. They maintain tradition even when updating equipment; in fact, the new cantina works entirely on the gravity principle.
Fontodi has belonged to the Manetti family since 1968. The family has been associated for centuries with another activity typical of the Chianti region, the production of its famous “terrecotte” tiles. Fontodi is a certified organic estate which extends over 130 hectares of which about 70 are planted with vines. The type of agriculture practised is inspired by the principles of respect of nature and sustainability. Not only are no chemical products used but there is an effort to maximize the internal resources of the estate, thereby reducing the need for any external input.
