NV Geoffroy Rosé de Saignée, Champagne, France
As a preamble the ruby red hue of this Rosé de Saignée is a pleasure for the eyes. The nose of this Champagne is a spring bouquet: rose, wild strawberry, raspberry and later blackberry combine perfectly to offer aromas, which would not be expected in a conventional rosé Champagne. The mouth follows on from the nose, and, thanks to the structure of the Pinot Noir, the vinosity of the finish is compellin. Because of this freshness, this Rosé de Saignée Champagne is best enjoyed young to take full advantage of aromas of small, fresh and crisp red berries.

ABOUT THIS WINE
This 100% Pinot Noir Rosé champagne comes from grapes all hand harvested in 2019, grown in Cumières 1er Cru. The vineyard is planted in clay and sandstone, with deep chalk running throughout. The wine is macerated for 3-4 days in open oak tanks and does not go through malolactic fermentation. It is fermented and aged in enameled stainless steel and aged for 42 months on the lees. Brut with a dosage of 6g/L.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
The Geoffroy family have been winemakers since the seventeenth century and the property has stayed in the family for almost 400 years, uninterrupted. In addition to prime parcels in Cumières, the family has holdings in Damery, Hautvillers, and Dizy. Geoffroy’s vines average about 20 years of age, and the oldest are from 1926. Viticulture is described as lutte intégrée, or “integrated pest control”—it is heavily aimed at sustainability, eschewing all chemical weedkillers and employing methods such as the planting of cover crops, tilling of the soil and the encouraged habitation of predatory insects to combat vine pests.
