NV Lady of the Sunshine "Solera No. 4 - Botanical", SLO Coast, California, USA

Wildly aromatic, gently oxidative, and playfully complex, Solera No. 4 – Botanical is an ever-evolving, solera-style white blend that blurs the line between wine and botanical tincture. Bursting with notes of bergamot, orange peel, chamomile, green almond, and coastal herbs, the wine is textural and layered, with a fine phenolic grip and a lifted, salty finish. It’s vinous, savory, and strikingly original—an expression of place, process, and intention.

ABOUT THE WINE

Solera No. 4 – Botanical is part of Lady of the Sunshine’s experimental solera series, a non-vintage skin-contact white blend that incorporates multiple grape varieties and multiple years of wine held in a continuous fractional blending system. The core includes skin-fermented Albariño, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris sourced from biodynamically and regeneratively farmed vineyards along the SLO Coast, primarily the Bassi and Chene Vineyards. Each year, a portion is drawn off and refreshed with the new vintage, creating a wine that carries both freshness and aged complexity.

The “Botanical” edition references its herbal, slightly bitter aromatics and a structure that calls to mind vermouth or fino sherry. Fermented with native yeasts, aged in a mix of neutral barrels and demijohns, and bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur, the wine offers savory citrus, dried flowers, tea-like tannins, and oceanic salinity. It’s a compelling match for pickled vegetables, anchovy toasts, or aged cheeses—and equally suited to slow sipping on its own.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Lady of the Sunshine, led by Gina Giugni, is a benchmark of regenerative farming and minimal-intervention winemaking on California’s Central Coast. Gina farms the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in Los Olivos District and works with like-minded growers across the SLO Coast, focusing on biodynamic, organic, and no-till vineyard practices. Her wines are defined by purity, texture, and balance, with the Solera series serving as an outlet for more experimental, expressive bottlings rooted in transparency and ecological awareness. Solera No. 4 – Botanical is a testament to her creativity and commitment to making wines that are both living and alive.
