2007 López de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" Rioja Reserva, Rioja, Spain
Delicately mature and classically styled, the 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a benchmark of traditional Rioja—silky, savory, and nuanced. Aromas of dried cherry, orange peel, leather, and spice lead into a lifted, medium-bodied palate with fine tannins, bright acidity, and layered notes of tobacco, tea leaf, and forest floor. The finish is long, graceful, and tinged with gentle oxidative charm.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Sourced entirely from the historic Viña Tondonia vineyard in Rioja Alta, the 2007 Reserva is a blend of approximately 75% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, and small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo. The wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts in century-old oak vats, then aged for 6 years in neutral American oak barrels, followed by extended bottle aging before release.
2007 was a cooler, more restrained vintage, resulting in wines of finesse and aromatic lift. True to the López de Heredia style, this Reserva was bottled unfiltered and released more than a decade after harvest. It’s a wine that rewards patience and air, pairing beautifully with grilled lamb, mushroom risotto, or aged Manchego.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, founded in 1877 in the winemaking hub of Haro, is a living monument to traditional Rioja. One of the few estates in the world still making wine the same way for over a century, the family-run bodega remains committed to long aging in old oak barrels, minimal intervention, and late release of fully mature wines.
Their Viña Tondonia Reserva is a reference point for classical Rioja: elegant, long-lived, and imbued with both terroir and time. The 2007 vintage exemplifies this legacy—a wine of quiet depth, historical continuity, and enduring grace.
