2011 La Spinetta Barbaresco "Vigneto Starderi", Piedmont, Italy

Expressive and richly layered, the 2011 “Vigneto Starderi” is a full-throttle Barbaresco that bridges ripe generosity with Nebbiolo’s classic tension. Bursting aromas of dark cherry, wild berries, rose petals, and sweet tobacco unfold into a plush, velvety palate framed by polished tannins. Notes of dried fig, menthol, and spice box accent the deep fruit, while a graphite minerality and fresh acidity drive a long, persistent finish.

ABOUT THIS WINE

This single-vineyard Barbaresco is sourced from the Starderi cru in Neive, known for producing some of the most structured and concentrated expressions of Nebbiolo. The 2011 vintage was marked by warmth and early ripening, yielding rich, generous fruit with fine tannic structure and balanced acidity.

Grapes were harvested from 50+ year-old vines rooted in calcareous soils, handpicked at optimal ripeness. Fermentation was carried out in rotary fermenters for enhanced extraction and aromatic intensity, followed by 22 months in new French oak barriques. The wine was then aged in bottle for about a year before release, allowing integration and complexity to develop.

The result is a wine that balances depth and power with finesse, showcasing Nebbiolo’s floral lift and earthy undertones. With air and age, it reveals layers of forest floor, dried herbs, cedar, and orange peel. It’s built for longevity but also stunning in its youth with decanting.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

La Spinetta, led by Giorgio Rivetti, has become synonymous with modern elegance in Piedmontese winemaking. The Rivetti family initially focused on Moscato in the 1970s, but Giorgio's vision pushed them toward ambitious red wines from top single-vineyard sites in Barbaresco and Barolo. Their approach blends organic farming, low yields, and modern vinification, producing wines that are powerful yet detailed.

In the cellar, La Spinetta’s use of new French oak, controlled fermentation, and long aging results in age-worthy wines with a distinctly polished texture and aromatic complexity. The Starderi vineyard is among their most iconic sites, delivering wines of intense fruit concentration and refined structure.

Each bottle bears an Albrecht Dürer animal engraving, symbolizing the elegance and expressive strength that define the estate’s style. La Spinetta’s reputation continues to grow globally as a benchmark for contemporary Piedmontese excellence.
