2014 Radikon “Pignoli”, Venezia Giulia IGT, Italy - 1L

Wild, powerful, and deeply soulful, the 2014 Pignoli is a rare, long-aged red from Radikon made from the little-known Pignolo grape. Dark cherry, dried plum, leather, and wild herbs unfurl on a structured, earthy palate with firm tannins, balsamic undertones, and a long, brooding finish. Bottled in Radikon’s signature 1-liter format, this is a singular, age-worthy wine for those seeking depth and character off the beaten path.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Made from 100% Pignolo—a historic, late-ripening red variety native to Friuli—Pignoli is one of Radikon’s rarest and most structured wines. The organically farmed fruit comes from vineyards near Oslavia, grown on ponca (marl and sandstone) soils. In true Radikon fashion, the grapes undergo extended skin maceration (often 30–60 days) and ferment with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for several years (often five or more), then bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfur.

The 2014 vintage delivers a complex, wild expression of Pignolo—dark and savory, with notes of dried cherry, cocoa, pine resin, smoke, and iron-rich earth. Tannins are firm but integrated, and the wine evolves beautifully with air.
