ABOUT THIS WINE

Intense and bright garnet colour. Rich and strong nose with floral notes and small delicious black fruits. The mouth evokes the fruits, the wine is full-bodied. Good length with a beautiful persistence, in the perfect lineage of the Grand Vin. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. "Lions de Batailley" is the second wine of Château Batailley and draws its name from the two Lions who guard the gates of Château Batailley's main entrance. Château Batailley, a 5th Grand Cru Classé of the classification of 1855, is the Castéja family's and Borie-Manoux’s flagship. It is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Lions de Batailey comes mainly from young vines, as well as from wines issued from non-associated plots in the final Grand Vin blend.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Château Batailley was acquired in 1924 by the Borie brothers, co-managers at that time of Maison Borie-Manoux. The name "Batailley" would come from the "Battle" which took place in 1453 between the French and the English on the lands of the future domain; with the reconquest of Château Latour by the French, this year saw the end of the Hundred Years War. Château Batailley is one of the oldest residences in the town of Pauillac. In 1855, Château Batailley was classified in the Fifth Grand Cru category of the Médoc, thanks in particular to the improvements made by Daniel Guestier.

The Médoc classification was set up at the request of Napoleon III by Bordeaux wine merchants as part of the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855.n It was developed according to the value of the wines, but also the reputation of the Châteaux.

A programme was launched in 2002 to ensure the excellence of wines produced on the estate. Following vat house renovation works in 2006, it was now possible to pursue plot-by-lot wine-making. Château Batailley flourished as a result, releasing its second wine, Lions de Batailley, in 2015, and its third in 2019, Pauillac de Batailley..
