ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Ciacci Piccolomini is a storied and ancient farm known today as one of Brunello’s greatest producers. Established in the 17th century in the village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate above the Orcia river valley. Castelnuovo is located in the southeastern zone of Brunello where it’s warmer and drier, more Mediterranean than the weather around the village of Montalcino. Here, cool nightly breezes from Mt. Amiata produces a style of Brunello with rich, forward fruit and racy acidity. The soils are a mix of compact clay and minerals that easily crumble, locally known as Galestro (schist). The Ciacci Piccolomini estate was brought into the production of Brunello by Giuseppi Bianchini in 1985. While a forerunner in vineyard management, organic farming, green harvesting, and clonal selection, they prefer the slow and savory maturation of their Brunello in large Slavonian cask that range from 20 to 85 Hl.
