2017 Domaine du Gros Noré Bandol Rouge, Provence, France
A dark leathery frame but remains sleek and pure overall, with a dense core of currant preserves, steeped plum and lightly mulled blackberry fruit, studded with dried anise and singed juniper notes. A bolt of iron is buried deeply on the finish.
The Bandol red wine is a blend several grape varieties, each of which brings its own personality to the wine. Grenache brings a fruity touch, the Cinsault contributes to the finesse of the wine, the Carignan gives it its acidity and the Mourvedre grape gives the framework and its structure to the wine. All these vines are between 40 and 60 years old and are assembled to create a general harmony in the wine.
The vineyards of Gros Nore are the highest vineyards in the appellation. These much higher and cooler sites have a base of limestone soils contributing to the outstanding freshness and vitality of the wine. The wine is fermented with natural yeast and bottled without fining or filtering.
Blend: 80% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache, 5% Cinsault
