2020 Agricola Punica "Montessu", Isola dei Nuraghi IGT, Sardinia, Italy
The wine has notes of cherry, raspberry and ripe fruit, myrtle and juniper. In mouth, the wine has full-bodied black fruit flavors, with soft, saline notes, with elegant traces of rosemary and black pepper, enhancing a long, silky finish.
ABOUT THIS WINE
Among the grapes harvested for Montessu, Merlot is ready first. Followed by Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignano harvesting last. Some unusual rains came during the critical times, but in the end all was harvested in time and the fruit picked had good balance. The final blend for Montessu is a mix of grapes balanced for the best results in the specific conditions of each harvest.
The must is fermented with the skins at a temperature of between 25 and 30°C. It is periodically pumped over to facilitate the solubilization of the compounds present in the grapes. Malolactic fermentation confers roundness to the wine, which is then aged in used French oak barrels for approximately. 12 months
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Agricola Punica, one of the most renowned names in the world in wine production is a joint venture between Dr. Sebastiano Rosa, the Santadi winery, Tenuta San Guido, Antonello Pilloni, President of Santadi and the legendary Tuscan winemaker Giacomo Tachis. It was the latter that thought of Sardinia and convinced everyone that he could produce a great wine from grapes grown in the Sulcis. In 2002, Agricola Punica acquired land divided into two estates: Barrua and Narcao, located in south-western Sardinia, in an area known as Sulcis Southern. Everyone knew well what he was capable with this land and after the first harvest all agreed they had a resounding wine.
