2018 Robert Sinskey "Orgia", Los Carneros, California, USA

Textural, aromatic, and unconventional, the 2018 Orgia from Robert Sinskey is a skin-fermented Pinot Gris that challenges expectations with grace and finesse. Aromas of orange peel, dried apricot, Earl Grey tea, and alpine herbs lead into a structured, amber-hued palate. Savory, dry, and slightly tannic, it finishes with notes of citrus zest, orchard fruit, and subtle spice—both thought-provoking and food-loving.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Orgia (a play on "orange wine" and the Italian “orgia” for “feast”) is Robert Sinskey’s take on Pinot Gris vinified with extended skin contact, resulting in an amber wine that sits stylistically between white and red. Sourced from biodynamically farmed estate vineyards in the cool Los Carneros AVA, the fruit benefits from long hang time and bright acidity, producing a wine that can handle both skin contact and bottle aging with ease.

In 2018, the grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented on the skins using native yeasts for about two weeks—extracting color, tannin, and aromatic complexity. The wine was then pressed and aged in older French oak barrels for 22 months on the lees without racking or fining. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it retains natural texture and vibrancy.

The resulting wine is dry, medium-bodied, and structured, with a copper-amber hue and layered notes of stone fruit, bergamot, rooibos, and savory earth. There's a gentle grip from the tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that keeps the wine lifted and food-friendly.

Pair it with Moroccan tagines, grilled salmon, aged cheeses, or mushroom-based dishes—Orgia thrives where other whites would falter.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Robert Sinskey Vineyards is a pioneering Napa Valley estate located on the Napa side of the Los Carneros AVA, known for its commitment to biodynamic and organic farming, culinary integration, and elegant, terroir-expressive wines. Founded in the late 1980s by Rob Sinskey, the winery has long emphasized balance, sustainability, and restraint over power or excess.

All estate vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, with a holistic approach that includes cover cropping, composting, and biodiversity to foster healthy soils and vines. In the cellar, the philosophy is equally gentle: native yeast fermentations, minimal intervention, and extended aging are the norm.

Orgia is emblematic of Sinskey’s creative, food-focused ethos—an “orange” wine made with intention, craft, and respect for both grape and place. It’s a rare example of California Pinot Gris reimagined not as a neutral white, but as a compelling, age-worthy wine that bridges Old World tradition and New World freedom.
